The due punishment to a soul until the money it earned in an unfair way is spent for good deeds.

In Hungary, Clement, an army soldier, received bribes from a man and killed his enemy. But he began to feel the terrible scruples in his conscience. He was also afraid of the punishment of God for this sin. And so he felt sorrow for his sin and vowed to spend the money he received as a bribe to make a statue of our Sorrowful Mother so as to pacify the wrath of God. But he deferred many times to carry out what he vowed. Then one day, he met with a sudden death.

His soul went to Purgatory and was being tormented excruciatingly in the purging flames. But according to Divine Will, it came to the earth and appeared to a religious sister and told her. “Please meet my wife and receive from her the money which I kept in a case and use it to make a statue of the Mother of God. Since I did not fulfill my vow, I am suffering a lot in Purgatory,” it said to her and then disappeared.

But this religious sister, out of unnecessary shyness, did not reveal this message to anyone. So that soul appeared to her three more times and begged her to do what it said. But as the nun was still hesitating to do what the soul told her, it appeared to her once more and told her, “Sister, until you tell this message to my wife, I am not going to leave you alone, because I am terribly suffering in the fires of Purgatory.” So, finally, she managed to reveal it to some men.

A rich man who heard the story narrated by the sister, took pity on that soul. He called for a carpenter to his house and giving his own money, he asked him to make a statue of our Lady. The carpenter went into the jungle nearby and looked for a suitable tree but he could not find one. When he was returning with disappointment, an old man appeared to him and asked, “What are looking for?” and he answered him. Then the old man pointed his finger towards the right side and told that there was lying a tree cut down four years ago and it would be suitable for making a statue. The carpenter found the tree, brought it home and started working on it.

After some days, Clement’s soul appeared to the Sister again and told her, “The Statue must only be made with the money I received as a bribe.” When his wife came to know these messages of her husband, she took pity on him and gave the money immediately to the carpenter.

A beautiful statue was sculpted and was erected in a church of our Lady. Then Clement’s soul appeared to the Sister, this time with glory and happiness and told her, “Now as my vow have been fulfilled, my pains of purification are over and I am going happily to heaven” and he disappeared.

Christians! Take care of paying back your debts and especiallyyour  vows to God and of doing virtuous deeds, because your wife/husband and children may forget to help you, only looking for the way of their living. It is due to such an ungratefulness on the part of his wife, Clement had to suffer terribly for a long time in Purgatory. Avoid receiving bribes or cheat or harm others because of your covetousness for money to save yourselves from a terrible purgatorial pain. Do not forget that until you fulfill your vow or pay back your debts, you will have to be in purgatory.
