Long-term punishments for some sins in Purgatory.

In Spain, there was a virtuous woman named Francesca. Her husband had gone to a foreign country as a part of his job and was absent for a long time. An evil man, knowing this, coveted Francesca and deciding to make her his own, revealed his evil desire to her. But this virtuous woman did not accede to him.

But that evil man compelled her over and over again and finally he committed the sin of impurity with her one day. Francisca became very sad. After a few months, she found that she was pregnant. And she aborted her unborn baby by using relevant medicine so as to hide her offence from her husband and others. She also killed him who seduced her to sin.

Ashamed of telling these truths to even the priest who knew her well, she was making sacrilegious confession. But she made a good confession when she was in her deathbed and died. She was the sister of St. Vincent Ferrer. Not knowing anything that happened in her life, the saint prayed for his sister for the soul of his sister.

One day, in a vision, he saw a woman suffering terribly in fire. She was biting a little child which was in her hand to pieces and was eating it. Utterly surprised and frightened, he asked her, “Who are you? Why do you eat that child in so cruel a manner?” And she introduced herself as his sister Francesca and related everything that happened in her life without leaving anything. Moreover, she told that God had decreed that she had to be in Purgatory up to the day of General Judgment. And she also added that as a punishment to the sin of her abortion and the killing of her child, she bit her child to pieces and ate it. Then she begged him to be merciful to her and told him that if he would offer Masses for successive 30 days without any break, for her, she would not need to be in purgatory for such a long time. Then she disappeared. St. Vincent Ferrer very much suffered to hear his sister’s lamentable story. He celebrated Masses with immense piety for thirty days in succession without a break and offered them for the repose of her sister’s soul. At the end of the 30th Mass, he saw her soul going to heaven and was extremely happy.

Christians! Killing an unborn infant by abortion is an extremely vicious sin. Even though killing a man is a very grievous sin, killing of an innocent child which is absolutely helpless, by its own mother is one of the most grievous mortal sins. To destroy a child in the womb itself, before it can receive Baptism is an unforgivable and extremely atrocious sin, because the child is forbidden from entering into heaven, being with the original sin for ever. Though those who committed this sin unknowingly may escape hell and go to purgatory because they got anguished and repented for the sin, they must suffer terrible torments in Purgatory for a very long time.

Not only those who commit this sin but also those who are helpful to it, must also fear God. Some doctors give medicine for abortion. Some, though they don’t know anything about the medicines, guide others to such doctors. As these are also guilty of connivance for this sin, they will also be certainly punished severely.
