The benefits received by Suffering Souls when we offer Rosaries for them.

In Spain, St. Dominic established a Confraternity of the Holy Rosary and was teaching the people about the excellence of the Rosary. A beautiful young girl of noble birth named Alexandra entered this Society and began to pray 53 bead Rosary every day in honor of the Blessed Mother. Two young men were contending to marry this young girl. And the contention developed into a duel. Both  suffered mortal injuries and died in the duel. The relatives of both of these young men, thinking that Alexandra was the reason for their death, became wrathful against her. They slashed her to death with knives and threw her body into an unused well.

At the same time, Our Lady showed Herself to St. Dominic who was staying in another city and announced him about this murder. St. Dominic, with a deep sorrow, set off immediately and came near the well into which the corpse of Alexandra was thrown. Some others also had accompanied him. St. Dominic looked into the well and called the young girl by her name. And as a miracle of Our Lady, Alexandra, instantly revived for the time being, came out of the well, to the utmost astonishment and fright of others. Everyone became dumbfounded by what they saw.

Alexandra, who was now fully alive, bowed before St. Dominic and told him, “Dear Father, You have rendered me a great help by entering my name into the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary. Our Lady, Queen of heaven, has done me an immense favor through this Confraternity.” And St. Dominic ordered her to give her testimony to this miraculous event in public so that every member of the confraternity might come to know its greatness.

This is what Alexandra told to the members of the Confraternity: “When I died, three things happened to me:

1. God ordered me to pray the Act of Perfect Contrition because of the merits I earned by entering into the Confraternity and prayed the Rosary daily.

2. When I was about to die, many devils appeared before me and tried to drag me into hell, but Our Lady saved me this extreme danger, thanks to my habit of praying the Rosary every day.

3. Two young men died because of me. And I was the reason why they loved me. God sentenced me to be detained in Purgatory for many hundreds of years. But I am hopeful that this long duration of purgatorial pain will soon come to an end because of the mercy and prayers of the members of the Confraternity.”

After saying these words, the girl once again lost her life.

Hearing these messages and becoming very confident, St. Dominic and the members of the  Confraternity interred the girl’s body with due veneration. And they began to offer Masses, to give alms and to pray for the repose of her soul. Because of their great endeavors, Alexandra’s soul once again appeared to St. Dominic coming back from Purgatory fifteen days after the miracle and announced to him, “Dear Father, My purgatorial detention has very quickly been over, thanks to the charitable acts of the members of the Confraternity. If they continue to offer Masses, give alms and offer Rosaries, etc., many more suffering souls like me would be greatly favored by them.” Saying this, she disappeared.

Seeing the glories of the Holy Rosary offered for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, the members of the confraternity remembered Our Lady with immeasurable gratitude.

Even though we do not have a chance to be enrolled in this Confraternity, the Blessed Mother will indisputably save us also from the pains of Purgatory, if we pray the Holy Rosary daily.
