The Benefits of Perfect Contrition of one who dies out of pure love for Godand before he could make a Good Confession with Perfect Contrition.

In England, a priest was preaching about mortal sin. In the sermon, he was explaining how our Lord hates this sin and how wicked its effect are.

A woman who was hearing the sermon was affected by the convincing Truths explained by the priest. She became very sorrowful and wept out of perfect contrition about her obnoxious sins. As her contrition increased minute by minute, she interrupted the sermon, saying aloud with tears, “Father, please hear the Confession of me, a great sinner.”

The priest told her to wait until his sermon would be over. After some time, she again interrupted him saying, “Father, please hear my confession at once, without delay.” He momentarily stopped his speech and advised her, “The sermon is about to end. Be a little patient.”

Now the priest had come to the last part of the sermon in which he gave the faithful the essential points of his sermon briefly. And the woman was still more affected and stood up again saying, “Father, you must not delay in hearing my confession anymore. Please make it quick. Because, death is approaching me fast because of the immense pain I suffer for my numerous sins.” After saying this, she suddenly fell down and died instantly. And she had been a prostitute all her life.

The priest and the faithful in the church became very sad as the prostitute died without making a good confession. The priest requested the people to pray for her for three days. He also went to his monastery and prayed for the next three days, night and day without food and sleep. On the third night, as he was still praying, a woman dressed in white appeared before him and said, “Father, I am the sinner, saved by you. My pains of Purgatory have come to an end. You need not pray for me anymore, but thank Our Lord for the help He has done to me.”

But the priest suspected about her thinking, “Is she not the one who died just three days ago? How can she appear to me? Can it be a deceit of the devil?” Knowing this, the woman told him, “I give you a sign to clear your doubt. Today a virtuous priest named Father Nivel John has died in the city of Liez. He was very devoted to the Souls in Purgatory when he was alive. When he was taken to heaven immediately after he died, he was given to see, by the Will of God, the pains of souls in Purgatory and prayed to God to show them mercy in view of the Holy Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Some souls have been delivered from Purgatory and are going to heaven and I am one of them. But before going to heaven, I came to thank you for the perfect contrition you generated in my soul through your sermon.”

The priest was absolutely surprised. He immediately sent a person to Liez and found that everything said by the soul was true and that on the same day, the holy priest also had died.

Christians! That woman tried to make confession. She desired to confess. She had a perfect contrition in her soul for her sins and so God forgave her sins. You also must make it habitual to feel perfect contrition for your sins. Remember that you must tell all the sins for which you felt a perfect contrition without fail when you find the first opportunity to make your confession.

Though that woman’s soul was very heavy with numerous sins, God decreed to her to stay only three days in Purgatory. So make it habitual to have perfect contrition for your sins, if you do not want to be detained there for a long time for your numerous sins.

To induce such a perfect contrition in your soul, you must frequently think who you are. You are a poor creature, who will one day turn into the slime of the earth again. Also think Whom do you offend grievously with your sins. He is God the Supreme Goodness, Who utterly abhors sin. You must meditate on these truths, inquiring yourself, thus making an examination of conscience as frequently as possible.
